Function: Specialized Room/Space

Department: Arts, Media & Engineering

The Motion Analysis Lab/Intelligent Stage is a research lab and performance space dedicated to the expansion of studies in interactive motion analysis and performance. Current infrastructure includes motion sensing and motion capture technology for real-time control of audio, video and lighting. The facility is outfitted with two sets of motion capture equipment from Motion Analysis Corporation and Natural Point Inc. The Lab has a performance area measuring 35x35 feet and is equipped with a 17x13 feet floor sensor, 5.1 surround system, projection system, and lighting. The lab is part of the Interdisciplinary Research Environment for Motion Analysis (IREMA) initiative which seeks to offer a unique and powerful palette of perspectives to address existing research questions in motion capture and analysis, create new approaches and tools, and identify new areas of inquiry. Expressing the hybrid nature of the research focus of The Motion Analysis Lab/Intelligent Stage, the lab is co-directed by AME faculty Todd Ingalls and Gang Qian. Members of the ASU community who would like to use the facility must first develop a research plan with AME faculty and obtain the required technical training to use the reservation system.AME Research Advancement Specialist, Colleen Bivona can help connect researchers with AME faculty to develop a collaborative research opportunity with AME.
